Golf Cart & LSV Brands Guide: Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, ICON & More

Club Car fleet golf cart

Shopping for a golf cart or low-speed vehicle — or insuring one you already own? The brand and trim matter, because the same body style is often sold both as a ~19 mph golf cart and as a 25 mph street-legal LSV. Here's a quick guide to the names you'll see most, and what they mean when it's time to get a quote.

The Brands at a Glance

Club Car

One of the 'big three' golf cart makers. The Onward line dominates neighborhood use, and Club Car also offers street-legal LSV models. Known for aluminum frames and strong resale value.

E-Z-GO

Textron's golf cart brand and a fixture on courses everywhere. The RXV and Freedom models are popular personal carts, and the Liberty offers a four-seat LSV-style layout.

Yamaha

The third of the big three. The Drive2 line comes in gas and electric and is prized for its quiet QuieTech suspension. A common sight in golf communities across Florida and the Carolinas.

GEM (Waev)

The original neighborhood electric vehicle, formerly a Polaris brand. GEM e2, e4, and e6 models are factory LSVs with doors available — common in resorts, campuses, and downtowns.

Tomberlin

A dedicated LSV maker — the E-Merge line ships street legal with seat belts and automotive-style lighting, aimed squarely at neighborhood driving.

Bintelli

Charleston, South Carolina-based and fast growing. The Bintelli Beyond comes in golf cart and 25 mph street-legal LSV trims, with strong dealer support in beach towns.

ICON

A value-focused brand from Tampa offering lifted and non-lifted models. Most ICON models can be ordered as 25 mph street-legal LSVs — hugely popular in Florida golf cart communities.

Evolution

Known for lithium batteries standard, touchscreen dashes, and aggressive styling. The D5 and Forester lines come in both cart and LSV configurations.

Garia

The luxury end of the market — Danish-designed carts and street-legal LSVs with automotive build quality, now part of Club Car.

STAR EV

A South Carolina manufacturer with a broad lineup from golf carts to Sirius and Capella LSV models, plus utility and transport vehicles.

Denago

A newer value brand. The Rover series includes the Rover XL LSV — a 25 mph street-legal model with lithium power at an entry price point.

Advanced EV

Builder of the Advent series, sold widely through powersports dealers. Street-legal LSV packages are available on most configurations.

Cushman

A century-old utility name (now under Textron alongside E-Z-GO). Hauler and Shuttle models serve campuses, farms, and job sites — often insured as off-road utility vehicles.

Columbia

Wisconsin-based maker of utility and personal transport vehicles, including the Journeyman line. A staple in industrial and campus fleets.

Why the Brand & Trim Matter for Insurance

Two vehicles from the same brand can land in different insurance markets. A 19 mph ICON or Evolution without a plate is generally quoted as a golf cart; the 25 mph LSV trim of the very same model — with its 17-digit VIN and license plate — is generally quoted more like an automobile, with state liability minimums (and PIP in Florida). Vehicle value matters too: lithium packages, lifted suspensions, custom wheels, and sound systems push replacement cost up, which is worth disclosing so a quote reflects the real vehicle.

When you call, have your make, model, year, and trim handy — and tell the agent whether it carries a plate. That single detail routes your quote to the right market. See LSV vs golf cart for the full breakdown, or request a quote online.
